40,000 Kildare homes without water
40,000 homes are without water in North Kildare following a major fault at a pumping station.
Some homes have been without water for almost 24 hours.
Engineers from Kildare County Council are carrying out work to restore supply to the affected areas.
It is understood that bottled water has been sold out in many shops.
Spokesman for Kildare County Council, Charlie Talbot, says it is unclear when supply will be restored.
Mr Talbot admits certain areas may not have water until tomorrow morning, but staff have been working since last night in an attempt to restore the service.
