Taoiseach defends Gardaí after 'abuse of power' claims

The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, has defended the Gardaí following a television documentary last night detailing incidences of brutality and perjury by members of the Force.

The documentary also suggested that the Gardaí were extremely reluctant to properly investigate cases where their members were suspected of assaulting prisoners and lying under oath.
