It has been reported that applications for asylum in Ireland dropped by almost a third in 2003.

Figures show that the number of applications last year fell by 32% to just under 8,000.

Last year's Supreme Court ruling, which denied automatic refugee status for parents of Irish-born children, was one of the main reasons for the reduction.
