Post-mortem due to begin in Dundalk

The State pathologist is due to begin the post mortem of a man found dead in Dundalk this morning at 1pm.

The body of a 59-year-old man was found on Patrick Street at 12.35am. Gardaí say they are treating the death as suspicious.

The body is still at the scene and the area is being preserved for technical examination.

A 30-year-old Dundalk man was arrested this morning in relation to the incident.

He is being detained at Dundalk Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, where he can be held for up to 12 hours.

Gardaí are appealing for information from anyone who was in The Laurels, Bridge St, Patrick St, or Church St area of Dundalk shortly after midnight last night to contact them.
