The National Women’s Council has welcomed the Equality Tribunal’s €30,000 award to a female office worker who was discriminated against and victimised after being sexually harassed by a manager.

The woman was demoted and isolated after making a complaint about the harassment.

The Equality Tribunal decided to award her €15,000 for discrimination and another €15,000 for the effects of the victimisation.

The Women’s Council said the award could help highlight the problem of sexual harassment in Irish workplaces.
