Fresh talks have been launched to avoid a bitter split in David Trimble’s Ulster Unionist Party, it emerged today.

Former Stormont Economy Minister Sir Reg Empey and Ulster Unionist honorary secretary Jim Rodgers have launched their own initiative to heal divisions between Mr Trimble’s supporters and a faction led by rebel MP Jeffrey Donaldson.
