Social Affairs Minister Mary Coughlan is negotiating with Transport Minister Seamus Brennan to see if pensioners can avail of unlimited free travel on Dublin’s new light rail system.

Connex, the company awarded the contract to operate the LUAS, proposes to accept the OAP pass but not during peak times.

Irish Rail provides unrestricted free travel for pensioners.

Fine Gael Social Affairs spokesman Michael Ring says LUAS should do the same.
