Former politicians urged to comment on Barron Report
The Tánaiste, Mary Harney, has called on members of the Fine Gael-Labour Government in the mid-1970s to make a statement about the coalition’s handling of the investigation into the Dublin and Monaghan bombings.
The Barron Report into the bombings found that the Government of the day showed little interest in catching those responsible for the attacks.
Ms Harney said today that it might be helpful if someone from the Fine Gael-Labour coalition came forward and made a statement in response to the report.
She also said the Government should considering making the 1974 state papers available to the public one year early.
The confidential papers are due to be released for inspection at the end of next year.
