CSO reports further increase in Irish population

The Central Statistics Office has reported a further increase in Ireland’s population since last year’s census.

The CSO said today that the population had increased by more than 61,000 since the 2002 survey, mainly because inward migration was exceeding emigration and the birth rate remained higher than the death rate.
