Barnados, a leading children’s charity, has said that it fears the upcoming Budget could exacerbate child poverty in Ireland.

Barnados, a leading children’s charity, has said that it fears the upcoming Budget could exacerbate child poverty in Ireland.

The charity says the spending plans contained in the Book of Estimates last week have raised fears that the Budget will leave more children living below the breadline.

Chief executive Owen Keenan says the desolation that poverty causes to the lives of many children is often underestimated, with many not being properly fed or getting proper support from disadvantaged parents.
