Taoiseach insists Hanly reforms will not cause hospital closures
The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, has insisted that none of Ireland’s hospitals will be forced to close because of the reforms contained in the Hanly Report.
Mr Ahern was responding to Dáil questions from Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny, who referred to a television documentary that claimed Nenagh and Ennis hospitals were likely to close because of the Hanly reforms.
The Hanly Report recommended that both hospitals be downgraded and that essential services in Nenagh and Ennis be transferred to regional hospitals.
