Dublin 'could lose €76m' over Port Tunnel height
An economist has predicted that failure to increase the height of the Dublin Port Tunnel could cost Dublin city and the haulage industry more than €76m over the next 15 years.
The figure was contained in a report compiled by Trinity College economist Sean Barrett on behalf of the Transport Umbrella Group, a coalition of business organisations and the haulage industry.
The report said so-called super-trucks would continue to use normal roads if the tunnel height was not increased from 4.65 metres to 4.9 metres.
This, it said, would lead to pollution, congestion and increased commercial costs.
