The Irish Nurses Organisation has called on Finance Minister Charlie McCreevy to increase current and capital health spending in his budget next month.

In its pre-budget submission, the INO said the money was needed to open up an extra 1,000 hospital beds next year and to address shortages of midwives and nurses.
