Review of witness protection scheme to be announced

The Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Equality and Law Reform is due to announce plans today to review the witness protection programme.

The move follows the collapse of a murder trial at the Central Criminal Court earlier this week.

The accused walked free from court after six prosecution witnesses retracted statements they had given to the gardaí.
