President Mary McAleese is due to attend a ceremony today to commemorate the founding of the Irish College in Rome 375 years ago.

President Mary McAleese is due to attend a ceremony today to commemorate the founding of the Irish College in Rome 375 years ago.

The Archbishops of Dublin and Armagh and are also due to attend the celebration.

The Irish College in Rome, founded in 1628, is the oldest Irish seminary in the world. Among its former students was St Oliver Plunkett, who attended in the late 17th century.
