Child poverty groups to hold conference in Dublin

A coalition of seven anti-poverty groups is holding a conference in Dublin today to discuss what actions are needed to effectively tackle child poverty.

The End Child Poverty Coalition has called on the Government to honour its promises to further increase child benefit payments and extend medical card eligibility to a further 200,000 households.

It said such actions were needed if the Fianna Fáil-Progressive Democrats coalition was to meet its self-imposed target of eliminating consistent child poverty by 2007.
