Health Minister Micheál Martin has launched a telephone helpline aimed at aiding people who want to give up smoking.

The helpline is part of a campaign designed to encourage smokers to quit the habit.

The campaign will also include television and billboard advertisements showing the effects that smoking can have on the human body.

The National Smokers Quit-Line number is 1850 201 203.
