The Irish Congress of Trade Unions has hit back at critics of the benchmarking scheme for public servants, accusing them of opposing a process that will bring significant benefits to Irish society.

Several prominent politicians, including Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny, have called for the deal to be renegotiated because of the costs it will incur for the Exchequer.
