British firm to investigate derailment
Iarnród Éireann has appointed a British firm to investigate last week’s freight train derailment in Co Tipperary.
Nobody was injured in the accident, which caused an estimated €1.5m worth of damage.
The train was passing over the so-called Cahir Viaduct when the bridge collapsed, sending several carriages plunging into the river below.
Work is believed to have been carried out on the track in the days before the incident.
The British firm AEA Technology Rail is due to investigate the circumstances of the crash along with a panel of experts from Iarnrod Eireann.
