84 jobs to go in Co Down

According to trade unions, the Morphy Richards factory in Bangor, Co Down has announced it will shut down early next year.

The company, which makes electric kettles, will let 84 people go.

Management and workers are due to hold a meeting tomorrow but it is thought there is little prospect of reversing the decision.

High production costs and competition from low-cost countries are thought to lie behind the decision.
