Dana calls for aid for Mayo landslide victims
Connacht-Ulster MEP Dana Rosemary Scallon has branded the Government "disgraceful" for what she sees as their lack of action to aid families affected by last week’s land slippage in Mayo.
She is calling on the Government to set up a disaster relief fund for those affected.
The landslides left communities in the villages of Pollothomas, Glengad and surrounding areas with severely damaged roads, houses and local amenities.
Their MEP Miss Scallon has called for national or EU funding to enable them to re-build their infrastructure.
She said: "The west has never enjoyed its fair share of infrastructure investment and now what infrastructure there is, is destroyed.
"The people can't be left in this way, but whether its EU funding or from the national purse, they must be helped at this time."
