Flights cancelled over work-to-rule

Aer Lingus cancelled two flights to London City Airport today due to an ongoing work-to-rule protest by cabin crew.

The airline said passengers due to travel on the two flights would be accommodated on flights to Heathrow Airport. It also said it expected the remainder of its schedule to run as normal today.

The cabin crew began the work-to-rule after Aer Lingus refused to pay them a 4% pay rise that was due under the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness last October.

The workers had originally agreed to delay the pay rise as part of the Aer Lingus survival plan drawn up after the September 2001 attacks on the United States, but they want it paid now that the company has returned to profitability.
