Calls for review after gay couple win case
The National Lesbian and Gay Federation has called for a review of all non-statutory government guidelines following the Equality Authority’s decision to uphold a case against the Department of Social and Family Affairs.
The authority found that the department’s free travel scheme discriminated against homosexual couples.
The case was taken after a gay pensioner’s partner was denied a travel pass.
Both men received €1,500 in compensation and the authority ordered that the free travel scheme be amended to comply with the Equal Status Act.
