The Braun electronics company has put almost 600 workers at its plant in Carlow on protective notice.

The move had been expected since last Friday, when staff were told that they would not be getting a promised 2% pay rise.

Braun is expected to blame an unofficial overtime ban by technical staff for the protective notice.

The technical staff have been refusing to work overtime because of a dispute over redundancy payments.
