European Car Free Day to take place today

Seventeen Irish towns and cities are due to take part in European Car Free Day today.

The participating areas are planning to ban private vehicles from their urban centres for a number of hours in an effort to encourage walking, cycling and the use of public transport.

Bus Eireann is also offering free travel in certain areas between 10am and 4pm, while Dublin Bus is offering free travel for all passengers between 10am and 1pm.
