Up to 100 people are still stranded in their homes in County Mayo after a landslide left a trail of destruction last night.

Up to 100 people are still stranded in their homes in County Mayo after a landslide left a trail of destruction last night.

They will be trapped there until tomorrow at the earliest, gardaí said.

Emergencey teams and gardaí are working to help those who have been cut off in the village of Pollathomas.

Two bridges have been damaged, and parts of the raodway are covered in mud up to a depth of seven feet.

Some homes are still without electricity and water. Superintendent Tom McNamara says it will be tomorrow before the area is cleared.
