Pedestrian dies in Co Monaghan accident

A male pedestrian has been killed after he was struck by a car in Co Monaghan.

The 27-year-old was knocked down in the village of Carn-Smithboro, off the main Clones-Monaghan Road, at about 1.30am today.

An ambulance rushed to the scene but the man died en route to Cavan General Hospital.

His name has not yet been released.
