The Government is to change the remit of a commission inquiring into child abuse in a bid to speed up the procedure and cut costs.

The move was confirmed tonight by Education Minister Noel Dempsey, who said if the commission continued in its current form, it could take as long as 11 years to complete its work, with potential legal fees of up to €200m.
