Man shot in chest in Dublin

A 27-year-old man is in a critical condition in hospital after he was shot in the chest in the Finglas area early today.

The man was shot a number of times on Abbotstown Avenue at around 12.30am. The attack was carried out by a man with a handgun.

The victim, who is believed to be from the area, was taken to hospital in Blanchardstown, but was later transferred to the Mater Hospital.

The scene of the shooting has been preserved for technical examination.
