Trees felled to make way for LUAS
More trees have been felled on Dublin's O'Connell Street to make way for the city's new light rail system.
The City Council has confirmed 14 London Planes trees, dating from the 1970s, were cut down at 3am yesterday.
The timber is being given to the Irish Woodturners Guild, which will craft it into decorative pieces for the capital.
Tony Lowes from Friends of the Irish Environment responded to the news this afternoon by stating that greenery lost to progress must be quickly replaced.
