CND to mark anniversary of Hiroshima bombing

The Irish Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament is due to hold a commemoration in Dublin today to mark the 58th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima by the US military.

Up to 140,000 people died when the US dropped the first ever atomic bomb on the Japanese city on August 6, 1945, at the end of World War II.

A further 120,000 have since died from the effects of the radiation.

The Irish CND is using today's anniversary to call for the complete disarmament of nuclear weapons across the globe.
