The Democratic Unionist Party was tonight accused of “selective hearing” after its deputy leader insisted elections to the Northern Ireland Assembly should take place before any talks are held to restore devolution.

Senior nationalist SDLP negotiator Joe Byrne agreed with DUP deputy leader Peter Robinson that elections must take place in Northern Ireland soon.
