A suspected bomb, carried into a house in Co Down by a 10-year-old girl, has been defused by Army explosives experts.

The device was thrown at a house on Brunswick Road in Bangor. It failed to explode, but smashed a window and landed in the garden.

The child found it, and carried it inside, where it remained for some hours before her parents realised what it was and called the police.

No motive for the attack has yet been established.
