Sinn Féin has called on Agriculture Minister Joe Walsh to hold a public consultation process before making any decision on the introduction of genetically modified food in Ireland.

The party claimed today that recently-adopted EU regulations prohibit national governments from banning GM foods, even though there are major concerns about their effect on human health and the natural environment.
