Tayto cuts 164 jobs
Tayto Ireland has announced 164 redundancies with the closure of its plant at Terenure in Dublin.
It follows a major restructuring and investment programme, which aims to enhance the company's competitive position.
The move means the company will outsource production of its snack products range to Irish company Largo Foods. Tayto is also investing more than €5m in its crisp plant at Coolock in Dublin to secure its future.
It is a bleak day on the jobs front generally. Earlier, Guinness announced 135 job losses on both sides of the border, while Galway company Oran Pre-Cast is to lay off 40 staff.
