A 35-year-old man was shot dead in a gangland-style killing last night in Dublin, gardaí said.

Three men called to a house on the Balrothery estate in Tallaght at 12.20am and asked for the victim by name.

When he came to the door, the man was shot several times. He was taken to Tallaght hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Gardaí said a number of men were seen running from the scene and fleeing in two cars.

One of the cars was believed to be a Ford Focus or a similar vehicle and the other was a small, dark hatchback.

Nobody was arrested in connection with the shooting.

A post-mortem examination was due to be carried out later today. The victim was not named by gardaí.
