Child critical after fatal Sligo house fire

A 10-year-old boy remains in a critical condition at the Burns Unit of Crumlin Children's Hospital following a house fire in Sligo yesterday morning.

A 10-year-old boy remains in a critical condition at the Burns Unit of Crumlin Children's Hospital following a house fire in Sligo yesterday morning.

The fire, which broke out at 8.30am, claimed the lives of the boy's two sisters aged six and 11.

They died at Sligo General Hospital having been taken from the house at Ballytivnan.

The children's parents received minor injuries in the fire and the local health board have put in place a support service to help the family and local community cope with the situation.

No cause has been given for the fire yet but garda forensic teams are examining the scene.
