Government set to scrap movie tax breaks

Ireland's position as one of the top six preferred locations in the world for moviemakers will evaporate if the Government goes ahead with plans to remove tax incentives for the industry.

An economic report commissioned by Screen Producers Ireland found that 80% of productions would cease in the short term.

It is recommending the current tax break be continued for another 10 years, and the cap on investment be doubled.

Chairperson Joan Egan has said the industry has the potential to treble in size here over the next decade.
