Women's Council calls for welfare revamp

The National Women's Council has called on the Government to modernise social welfare provisions for women.

The council said the current social welfare system denies women full economic independence and fails to recognise unpaid caring work.

It said this leaves women, especially single mothers and the elderly, at a higher risk of suffering poverty.
