Cigarette truck hijacked in Westmeath
Gardaí in Co Westmeath are investigating the hijacking and robbery of a truck carrying cigarettes near the village of Tyrellspass early this morning.
The articulated lorry was stopped by a group of men dressed as gardaí, who overpowered the driver and locked him in a shed.
The driver was uninjured, but did not free himself for a number of hours.
Gardaí have yet to locate the stolen truck, which was described as a white Scania with a white trailer bearing the words "Good care experts on distribution" on the side.
