An Irish Green Party politician accused of being a “chemical millionaire” is to weed out unethical shares from his €1.1m stock portfolio, he announced today.

Ciaran Cuffe TD said the shares detailed in a Sunday newspaper report were inherited from his mother, who passed away three years ago.

It was reported that Mr Cuffe had one of the most valuable equity portfolios of any Oireachtas member and that many of his shares were in politically incorrect ventures.

In a statement released this morning Mr Cuffe – the party’s environment spokesman – said: “These investments are currently under review to weed out any unethical shares.

“I have no wish to invest in companies with a bad environmental track record and I intend making significant changes.”
