Striking doctors to resume talks with health employers

The Irish Medical Organisation and the Health Service Employers Agency are due to resume talks at the Labour Relations Commission today in an effort to resolve the eight-week-old public health doctors' strike.

The talks, which have been ongoing for some days, are expected to last at least another week.

Around 270 public health doctors went on strike more than eight weeks ago in pursuit of improved pay and conditions.

They are seeking pay parity with hospital consultants and the implementation of a properly funded out-of-hours service.

The HSEA has reportedly tabled proposals on the out-of-hours service, but has flatly rejected the IMO's claim for parity with consultants, saying it would be financially impossible.
