Carey and Farrell launch ISPCC appeal

Kilkenny hurling legend DJ Carey and Dublin footballer Dessie Farrell today launched the "County Colours Appeal" for the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.

The ISPCC is producing a series of enamel badges in the colours of county GAA teams as the County Colours Appeal runs until the climax of the Championship season in September - the All-Ireland finals.

The ISPCC appealed to the public to help fund services to children in Ireland by selling or buying badges. The badges cost €2 each.

Kilkenny hurler DJ Carey said: "I am delighted to support the work of the ISPCC. The appeal will give the GAA family nationwide an opportunity to support those less fortunate in society."

Footballer Dessie Farrell, who is also the chief executive of the GPA, appealed to GAA supporters to wear an ISPCC badge in their county colours.

The money raised will help fund services, such as Childline, Leanbh - a service that works with children and families who beg, Steps Youth Advice and Counselling Centres and CRIB - The Children’s Rights Information Bureau.

The ISPCC needs €3.4m to run these services.
