Engineers aim to limit environmental damage

The Institute of Engineers of Ireland has expressed concern about the damage caused to the Irish countryside and wildlife by roads and motorways.

The institute is due to launch a European handbook at its annual conference today outlining how to limit such damage.

The IEI said roads cut through habitats and divide the animal population, making it more susceptible to extinction.
