The Tanaiste, Mary Harney, has claimed that the Government has allocated sufficient resources to the health system, despite yesterday's announcement of 250 bed closures in Dublin's five main training hospitals.

Speaking ahead of a cabinet meeting on health sector cutbacks, Ms Harney said: "I believe that we have given sufficient resources to the administration of healthcare for 2003.
