The Government is reportedly planning to raise the legal driving age for motorcyclists from 16 to 18 and introduce compulsory training in a further effort to reduce the level of deaths on Ireland's roads.

The move follows a threat by insurance firms to stop covering inexperienced motorcyclists under the age of 25 and those on provisional licences.
