May Day protestors take to streets

Gardaí will be out in force in Dublin city centre this afternoon as May Day protestors prepare to take to the streets for what they call a "street party".

Hundreds of demonstrators are expected to converge on the GPO for the start of their protest at 2pm.

The Reclaim the Streets group accused gardaí of overreaction during last year's event when officers baton-charged the crowd.

Organisers are refusing to co-operate with the gardaí today and have given no details about plans for the protest.
