Nurse's task force recommends compensation pay

The task force set up by the Minister for Health Michaél Martin is recommending a compensation scheme for psychiatric nurses injured through assault at work.

The task force set up by the Minister for Health Michaél Martin is recommending a compensation scheme for psychiatric nurses injured through assault at work.

The scheme will provide a lump sum for pain, suffering and out of pocket expenses for nurses who have been assaulted at work.

Des Kavanagh, General Secretary of the Psychiatric Nurses Association is welocoming the scheme.

He says that the awards now made to nurses will be based upon a set amount of money on categorised injuries.

The task force's recommendations are due to be announced at a conference this Tuesday in Cavan.
