Stevens urged to probe murder of UDA leader

British-Irish Rights Watch has called on London police boss John Stevens to include the murder of UDA leader John McMichael in his investigation into alleged collusion between loyalist paramilitaries and the British security services.

Mr McMichael was killed when an IRA bomb exploded under his car in Lisburn, Co Antrim, in December 1987.

Newspaper reports claimed the British Army had received warnings that his life was in danger.

McMichael's details were apparently passed to the IRA by fellow UDA member Jim Craig, who was later executed by his colleagues for his role in the murder.
