Gardaí in Limerick have arrested five people in connection with the murder of a 39-year-old man on New Year's Eve.

Gardaí in Limerick have arrested five people in connection with the murder of a 39-year-old man on New Year's Eve.

Sean Poland was shot dead during an apparent robbery at his home in Ardnacrusha.

He was shot once in the head by a group of men who also tied up and attacked his partner before stealing around €1,000.

Three women and two men - all in their 20s - were arrested at around 8am in north Limerick today, bringing the total number of arrests in connection with the killing to eight.
